How Do I Become The Top Model

How Do I Become The Top Model

My best advice is to get with a team of people who will work with you day and night and push out product

#1 Do projects with anyone and everyone (as long as they are reputable and legit)

#2 Get training, skills and development.

#3 Look at what the greats have done and what they currently do.

#4 Don’t sit back and wait for things to happen- Go get it.

#5 Be workable, friendly and a down to earth person.

#6 Be loyal to those who have your best interest.

#7 Don’t take no for an answer- find other options or ways to make a deal work.

#8 Never give up, Never, Never, Never Give up.

You Live In A State Where There Is Not Much Going On In Modeling

You Live In A State Where There Is Not Much Going On In Modeling

While most people will tell you that you are doomed, I say that this is a gold mine…

Especially if you live in a small town

Why do I say this

Everyone Knows You

Because think about it, what better opportunity to make it in modeling than to do it in a place where everyone knows you and your family, you can start at the small business level, approach business owners and ask them it you can promote their products and services

Work Your Way Up

Once you have done a fair amount of projects with business owners then you can take your work to the next town and do the same thing, after you have build up a good amount of projects, then you can start contacting modeling agencies or companies and submitting your work to them.

Just remember, you will experience rejection…

Keep going….

Someone will bite…

When they bite you will be on you way.

What Do Models Wear At Fashion Shows?

What Do Models Wear At Fashion Shows?

But to be more specific, a model can wear the clothes that they have in their closets or depending on the people involved in the fashion show and the decision makers, there may be times when the clothing designers, wardrobe persons or others in charge will want you to showcase clothes by a certain designer, and in these cases, usually everything is set up before the show, so that you know what you’ll be wearing or showcasing at the show (That’s if the show is organized)

The Person Keeps Rescheduling

The Person Keeps Rescheduling

I recently had a model ask me advice on how to deal with a photographer who keeps rescheduling her photo shoot.

Busy Professionals

Understand that photographers, modeling agencies, managers, clothing designers etc. all have a lot on their plates and there will be times that we have to reschedule meetings, shoots, fittings or whatever the situation or task may be.

Example, The Photographer

But there are times when it gets to be questionable if your appointment or shoot is rescheduled multiple times (like 2 or more) this is when you will have to ask yourself if this is a person who you want to be involved with, and at this point if I were you I would research them some more and also if you do decide to deal with them and money is involved ask them if they will take payment after your photos are edited and delivered, and the reason why you ask this, is because if their actions show that they don’t get back to you in a timely manner or can’t keep appointments, then this indicates that they may have a lot going on and that they may be the same way when it comes to delivering your photos, they may drag their feet or come up with excuses like- I was busy, I wasn’t feeling well, I was dealing with family things or I had this big project to finish and so on, but if you make an agreement to pay for your photo’s at the time of delivery (after editing) then the only thing you lose if the photographer never delivers your photos, is time and not the money you paid up front.

If It Doesn’t Feel Right Don’t Do It

If It Doesn’t Feel Right Don’t Do It

When looking working with others

#1 Meet with them

#2 Ask questions

#3 Ask for a resume

#4 Pick their brains

#5 How long have they been doing this?

#6 Review their work

#7 Find out who their clients are

#8 What are their processes?

#9 How do they work?

#10 Ask for referrals (phone number and email address and contact the referrals and ask for their opinion on that person)

#11 When working projects what are the security measures taken or how many people are there and who are they.

If it feels good and you feel comfortable, then go with this feeling, but no matter who you work with always bring someone you trust to any project or meeting.

Your personal safety come first.

What is the Easiest Way To Become A Model?

What is the Easiest Way To Become A Model?

#1 Find a Good Photographer and have him or her take photos of you
Always remember to research the photographer, look at track records, past clients, and always take someone with you when doing any photo shoots.
Remember: Photographers sometimes have you sign releases or agreements, so make sure you read the entire agreement and ask questions like the following

What will happen with my photos?

If your photos are going to be used their site and in their portfolio, make sure you get this in writing. Also include in the release or agreement that any other use of your photos, by the photographer will have to be authorized by model (YOU) and that the photographer agrees to ask for my permission before use or distribution

Do I own the photos?

In most cases if you do a free photo shoot, then the photographer owns the pictures, but this is negotiable.
Also in some cases when you pay, the photographer still holds ownership of your photos, so read the agreement and negotiate accordingly.

How many edited photos will I receive

Usually photographers will charge you for any extra editing of photos you want, so know how many photos you get up front (edited) and what are the costs for extra photo editing.

#2 Submit your great looking photo’s to a modeling agency or you can go at it alone and target businesses in your area.
You can also ask family and friends who own businesses or others who own business to give you a chance to promote their products and services.

#3 Promote/Market Yourself- In your space time, promote your photo’s or work you have done to everyone you know and don’t know, or find someone like me who will promote you and get you exposure everywhere.

#4 Repeat the whole process over and over again

Remember: rejection is part of the game, you will experience a lot, but don’t give up, just keep going and going and going… soon you will be where you want to be

How To Make Money As A Webcam Model

How To Make Money As A Webcam Model

If you google or search web cam models, you will find tons of opportunities and money in this area.

My research as led me to believe that some of these sites or opportunities are scams.
It is in your best interest to check them out completely.

For example

#1 If the webcam company is located out of state be careful, you should try to find out the location of the company or person in charge, email them, call them or write them a letter, also if you can use a friend in that state or family member, to locate them and check them out.

#2 Contacting the BBB or better business Bureau Doesn’t hurt either, but they may not be a part of the BBB

#3 Ask the company for references- they may not give them out, but ask any ways

#4 Finally read the fine print on the agreement or terms of service
Web Cam opportunities say they will pay you for X amount of dollars for the number of views, clicks, sign ups or whatever, but the problem with that is they control and know all the tracking and know the number of hits you receive, so basically that means they can tell you whatever they want to, so if you had 10 thousand hits, they could tell you that you only had 1 thousand hits and pocket the money they owe you.

I’m not saying that Web Cam Opportunities is a bad idea and that you should not do it, all I am saying is read the fine print and research the hell out of them, then make your decision, don’t be lured by the money and/or big promises offered by them

Know your business affairs.

Tattoo's In Modeling?

Tattoo's In Modeling?

This question is always asked and in my honest opinion, I always like to do what the greats do, and if you look at the greats, Cindy Crawford, Tyra Banks, Kimora Lee Simmonds.

Do They Have Tattoo's?  No they don't

Some Agencies may discourage you from getting them, but I say it is up to you what you want to do and how far you want to go.

Again this is my opinion, I think having no tattoo's will take you further, than if you did not, because as you get higher in modeling, you may run into those image particular folks that frown on them and because of this they may pass you up.

but again times are changing

Some models that have tattoo's are
Tyson Craig Beckford
Carolyn Murphy
Ana Beatriz Barros
Isabeli Fontana
Gisele Bundchen

How Do You Become A Model For Nordstroms, Target, Gap etc

How Do You Become A Model For Nordstroms, Target, Gap etc?

To model for Nordstroms, Target, Gap and other National Department Stores, Retailers and companies,
you will have to go through one of the these major modeling agencies Ford Models, Wilhelmina, Elite, Next and DNA.

These National Departments, Retailers and Companies mostly rather deal with professional modeling agencies.

But there are some exceptions sometimes Department Stores hold open casting calls. Periodically, department stores will have their own casting calls and auditions to find new models for their in-store fashion shows, local print advertisements and mall events.
The Best way to find out how you can model for a particular department store, is to call the store and ask.
Just say
I am looking to model for your store and would like you to direct me to the person who can give me information on how to submit my resume and portfolio to you.

Do You Have To Go To College To Be A Model?

Do You Have To Go To College To Be A Model?

Certainly not, but some form of education or skill will definitely help
Going to modeling school can give you advantages over those who didn't, you will learn valuable skills like makeup, hair, fashion etc. and this knowledge and training will really help you in your search for work.

Schooling gives you a boost in confidence.

Schooling looks really good on a resume/portfolio.

Schooling with a Well known agency may be able to help you get into doors that others, who with out the training and recognition of the agency  cannot.

But it all boils down to what you think will help your career the most.

What Does It Take To Become a Model?

What Does It Take To Become a Model?

It takes passion, I get this question all the time, and I tell those who want to model that if modeling is something that you really want to do just do it, but make sure you have fun doing it.

#1 Get yourself a good photographer, you will have to check out their work and make sure it is what you like, also make sure the photographer is legit and has references.

#2 Promote your self everywhere and to everyone

There are other things you can do but these are the basics

That Ain't Rain It's Pee

That Ain't Rain It's Pee
Contract and Agreements

Protect your self at all times Models and Talent, there are some real shady characters, people will say one thing, build your dreams, promise you the moon and get you all excited and before you know it, they got you.

Contract and Agreements

Protect your self with contracts and agreements, and tell people what you want and what you don't want, make sure you put people on your team that will work and work hard, never settle... never, never, never.

I can't stress this enough

Doing this will allow you to have more rainy days.

Are Our Dreams Reality?

Are Our Dreams Reality?
Or Are We In Reality Now?

What I mean by this is, it took me along time to see the full picture, I learned from my experiences and now I am sharper and more aggressive.

I know how to win.

Don't Be Afraid to Fail

Failure is good, you must embrace this if you want to be the Greatest at what you do. I have failed alot and continue to do so, but the failures are not massive enough to shut me down.

Wake up to Reality

Remember when you understood something clear as day, there was no denying that you understood it fully, it is like a rush and the confidence you felt was fantastic.
This happened to me only because of the experiences I went through.
Actually it was a DREAM that did this, then afterward I had to question if our dreams are reality or are we in reality right now?

Nothing is Different (everything cycles)

Models and talent, understand this--- everything that we are seeing now has happend before.
At first it was hard for me to grasp this, but after reading history and doing some extensive study, I have found this to be true.

A good example is the Real Estate Market (it cycles all the time)

To End

I guess what I am tring to say to you is.... Open Your Eyes, Look, and Learn.
Think about why this happens and why that happens, it will amaze you.

Use Pain, Hurt and Disappointments to Push Yourself to Greatness

Use Pain, Hurt and Disappointments to Push Yourself to Greatness

All Talent

Those who have hurt you, disappointed you, doubted you, not supported you, downed you and have done things to you that are way beyond understanding you must keep pushing on.

You must use this to your advantage, the best revenge is success, I quote by Frank Sinatra.

You must put yourself in a positive place or space no matter what.

You must limit interaction with negative people.

You must push yourself and work at your passion, especially when you get angry or hurt.

Flood the market with your projects and work, make people know you are serious, be better than the best.

Work work work set a goal to make sure that the world knows who you are and what you do and trust me you will see some amazing things.

People will do things that are so nasty and crazy that it will catch you off guard, but don't let it, you must prepare for the worst.

You will succeed I know it

The Truely Great Ones, Never Give Up

If you want to be a great model or actor, then you have to set your mind to it, focus and JUST DO IT!.
No matter how many hardships you face or how tired you may feel, keep pushing, make many contacts, network and build relationships with as many people in the industry as you can.

Go into each and every situation with a positive attitude, tell your self that you are going to blow away the competition, convince yourself that no one in the room is better than you, and you are the one who will come out on top, (actually visualize this)
and when it's time to perform, be confident, give it your best, be DYNAMITE, put your heart into it, look, act, and move like a star and make everyone in the room say WOW after you have finished.

After that, it's out of your control.....
Move on to the next audition or project and be even better.

Taking Direction

Taking Direction –

All of us at certain points in our lives have been told to do something, by either our parents, other relatives, teachers, the police or bosses. Taking direction isa part of life, and you will always experience this is some form.

In modeling when taking direction, listen to the source (make sure that the information you receive is reliable) always research it and investigate the source and learn as much as you can from the person giving the direction.

Taking direction from those experienced and successful makes you a better leader, and if in the future when it is your time to lead, you won’t make as many mistakes, some of the greatest actors had to take direction, Clint Eastwood, George Clooney as well as artists like Mariah Carey, Tu Pac, Jay-Z just to name a few. All of them had to follow someone or had a teacher to show them how to do things in a way that made them great at what they do or did, it took years for them to develop their skills or craft and now look at them, except Tu pac (may he rest in peace), but most of the people I just named are now in the place of the leaders who taught them.

From the Bottom to the Top - 5 important things you should remember

I feel it is good to always start at the bottom and work your way to the top, while learning as much as you can.

To end

#2 Ask Questions
#3 Learn
#4 Take Notes

What’s the Scoop On Him

About Dontae Brown
(Dontae Brown Projects)

Although Dontae Brown manages the careers of models, this is not something that’s a quick process. If he manages you, there is first a working relationship process, and then once he feels comfortable, that is when discussion of possible management will take place.

Mr. Brown is Managing Minnesota Male Model Ace Melody
He consults and works with various other models around the United States. Mr. Brown works tons of projects with independent models- as a project manager or casting director.

Talent Manager

Currently Mr. Brown has no interest in managing any Music Related Artists at this time.

Project Manager

As a project manager, Mr. Brown has plenty of resume/portfolio building idea’s and even more projects models can participate in that will catch the eye of those who are looking for you.
The projects created are like no other and Mr. Brown always strives for each and every project to be better and different than the last project.

A expert in marketing and advertising. Mr. Brown and his team of marketers will push serious models.

He works with the mysterious and very effective marketing and advertising genius “Charley the Mad Marketer Marley”.

Probably the greatest offer Dontae Brown offers is exposure of your career, which is what you and all serious models want for your modeling career.

I have noticed that many models are not sending out their work or sending it out the correct people.

To get work, you have to send your photos out on a consistent schedule, and if you want to be the best and have the most opportunities possible, then this has to be done all the time, each and everyday.... you must send your photos to everyone you can, friends, family, co-workers, small business, large businesses, etc. SEND YOUR PICTURES TO EVERYONE.

If you are not sending your photos out, then you are not making yourself available for work/projects and if you are not available for work/projects, then you are either
#1 sitting at home
#2 Working a job you don't really care to be at.

Sitting out in modeling is not working, not connecting and no one is connecting or calling you.

Set a goal and make a plan to obtain your goal, do the things necessary to establish yourself, it may seem uncomfortable at first but as time goes on, the more you do it, the better you will become.

Good luck Models

Getting Modeling GIgs/Work

If you google, Finding Modeling Work or Modeling Gigs, google will pull up ton's of how to's and sources, but the truthfully, to secure work in modeling,  you have to get out there and do lots of leg work, experience rejection and hear alot of "Sorry we're not interested", but it's a number game and you have to work the numbers.

Work the numbers and you will succeed...

Beware of:

#1 online sites who say that you can get gigs by paying a monthly fee. some are legit some are not, this is research that you or your manager should do to find out the legitimacy of the site or source.

#2 classified ad sites there are people who are willing to pay you for your modeling services, few are legit some are not legit (Craigslist for example is a good source but be smart when searching)

Indicators of the POSTS you need to stay away from
A. Look at the post, if it does not have any information about the project, the person, an email adress or phone number WATCH OUT!!!! and skip this post, MOVE ON!!!

I will always stress the importance of builing a team, doesn't matter if you are new or a experienced model, it is probably the best advice I can give you on modeling, but in order to build a team you must have positions (like in a company)
For example you should have
#1 A Manager
#2 A Marketing person
#3 1-3 other models who you network with and share information with(support)

Make sure you write up agreements with everyone to give them something for their hard work, or if you have the funds pay them something weekly, it doesn't have to be big, it could be a gift certificate, gas card or dinner.

Always remember to take care of those who are loyal to you and who hang in there with you.

#1 Write down a list of targets you would like to contact (I have lists of thousands of companies and businesses who I call and email every month in search of projects)

#2 Do not be afraid of no (the more no's you get, brings you closer to a yes)

Remember to have daily, weekly and monthly and yearly goals set for everyone in your team
For instance one example of a goal: would to have your marketing person place your pictures or work in 2 new media places a month.

2nd Goal: have your manager contact 1 person a day to secure you work.

Remember to have fun with it, have fun, have fun
If you are not having fun, then this is just another job you have to work.

You may be wondering why in the world do i need a manager

To create more opportunities, to organize, help planning strategy and assist you with everything you need in order to be a success.

2 types of managers-----> Good Managers and Bad Managers

Good Manager- should be working his butt off to ensure that you get to where ever it is you need to succeed.

Things to look for in a good manager

#1 Returns calls and emails.
#2 Has a track records in management or other businesses or companies he or she was apart of.
#3 Listens to you.
#4 Kicks butt when it comes to getting you connections.
#5 Professional in appearance.
#6 Does his or her business with agreements (paperwork).
#7 References from others managed, and other business owners.
#8 A good manager looks out for your best interests.

Things to look for in a bad manager

It is basically the exact opposite of the good manager list

When picking a manager

When picking a manager, it is very important that you test drive your manager, and by that I mean work with him or her for 3 to 4 months just to get a feel for how the manager works, rarely should you sign any long-term agreement with any manager or anyone, if you do not know how they work and conduct themselves in business.

These simple steps are really all you need in the beginning of your modeling career, and they are so important.

And remember to ask questions and always go with how you feel (Gut Feeling) or the vibe you get when meeting with a manager
